Yonael Marga is a slow-fashion luxury brand based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, We specialize in custom-made and ready-to-wear design, and conceptual art production. Our brand is rooted in African-Futurism and Ethio-futurism concepts and utilizes fantasy, story-telling, visual art, graphic, and fashion design to look into the past, how it interplays with the future, and the now through an Ethiopian lens birthing new perspectives. Preserve and pass on the generational knowledge of cloth making and indigenous art forms of Ethiopia through multidisciplinary approaches that fuse fashion design with visual art and creative writing/storytelling and showcase therm to local and global markets/audiences.

It is with this imagery as backdrops, Chereka was envisioned. Chereka, translating to the moon in Amharic, is a multi- disciplinary series inspired by the myriad cultures and traditions of Ethiopia. This project aims to take aspects from these diverse identities, mix together, and recreate them to fit our contemporary context and our imagination of the future.

The Berhan project, meaning “light,” was inspired during my visit to Arbaminch. Surrounded by the vibrant hues of leaves, trees, and animals, I was drawn into a study of color. The natural tones of the landscape sparked the project, highlighting how light is essential to revealing the beauty of colors.
